Perceptions of using target language in MFL classrooms

Anna Maly

For her Part 2 investigation Anna explored what students perceived as barriers to their use of target language in classroom and ways in which teachers could help support their use.

Surprisingly, students felt that their inability to use the target language in classroom was largely unrelated to the extent of teachers’ use. Teachers used target language most when they taught new vocabulary and corrected students’ work.  Recommendations to increase target language use included smaller classes and more time for lesson planning.
