NQT Induction Programme – Now Recruiting

This exciting induction support programme – run for the second year by the Oxford Education Deanery, in conjunction with OTSA (the Oxfordshire Teaching Schools Alliance) – is offered to all newly qualified secondary teachers who have just taken up posts in Oxfordshire (and beyond!)

The programme is appropriate for NQTs in all subject areas, and is directly focused on effective teaching and learning. Individual sessions will be responsive to participants’ concerns over the course of the year, while also responding to ongoing national policy developments, such as curriculum change at A-level and GCSE.

The NQTs taking part will be encouraged to develop peer support networks and to sustain those relationships beyond the duration of the programme. The programme also provides a firm basis for ongoing professional development, including preparing for accredited Master’s programmes such as Oxford University’s MSc in Learning and Teaching.

There will be six sessions over the year, one in each of the six terms. Each session will take place on a Wednesday afternoon, from 4.30 – 6.30 pm. Participants will undertake a school-based task in advance and come to sessions prepared to discuss their reflections and their own experience. There will also be short think pieces made available throughout the programme for reading and discussion.

Topics to be covered include: Professional learning as a teacher; Pedagogy and task design; Classroom leadership; Evidence-based teaching – making use of (research) evidence and enquiry into practice; Evaluating learning; and Planning future self-development
