Investigating Talk Moves in Key Stage 3 Mathematics Classrooms

Sarah was interested in classroom talk in mathematics lessons at KS3 and how professional development in her school improves the strategies for classroom discussion effectively.

Using videos of lessons, she categorised the type of talk that occurred in verbal interactions between teacher and student, and analysed how long the teacher waited when asking students to respond to questions. Her research will shed light on strategies for promoting student talk in the classroom.
