Author
Amelia Kyriakides
Summary
Amelia sought to implement and evaluate revision strategies (based on research in cognitive psychology) designed to enhance students’ long-term retention of scientific knowledge with a view to improving performance exams that are now all taken at the very end of the GCSE course). She used journals which guided students to engage in spaced learning, retrieval practice, and elaboration as ways of enhancing long-term retention. An initial and unexpected finding was that the activity became a source of collaboration and CPD for the teaching staff.
