Summary
This inquiry sought to help Year 11 mathematics students to deal with problem-solving questions in the new GCSE’ by teaching them to apply a four-stage problem-solving technique, based on the work of Polya (1990) How to Solve It. Evidence for the effectiveness of this technique comes from observing students referring to the problem-solving worksheets; observing students implementing the technique on mock exams, and from positive feedback from students.
