Formative use of summative assessment in Year 7 science
In this inquiry into using summative assessment for formative purposes, Xarius investigates its value for teaching exam techniques and its effects on student attainment. His intervention materials focus on the command words that frequently appear in test questions that the students will face, so that they become more familiar with the type of questions asked. Although he was unable to evaluate the impact of this work due to the school closure (for COVID), the school has incorporated some of the recommendations into their scheme of work for Year 8 science.
