Enhanced Masters in Learning and Teaching

The Enhanced Masters Programme has been designed to extend the existing University of Oxford MSc in Learning and Teaching (MLT) with a bespoke programme of localised support, mentoring and the opportunity to implement research in practice.

This is a 2-year Masters programme (for teachers who already have 60 M-level credits from their PGCE), followed by an Enhancement Year. The University-based element is the MLT programme: a taught year, followed by a 2nd year research and development project. In the ‘Enhancement Year’ that follows, participants are expected to mentor others undertaking the Masters, an Action Research Fellowship or an in-house research project. They may also lead and co-teach enhancement sessions throughout Deanery schools. (For those without M-level credits, the university element is 3 years).

The enhanced element of the programme is designed to use the knowledge, understanding and research skills acquired through the MLT to embed research findings effectively in practice and support participants in teaching, mentoring and coaching others.

Applications for the 2017/18 academic year are being accepted. The Enhanced Masters is available via the OCL partnership enrolment to the Masters in Learning and Teaching (MLT) course and there are two parts to the application.

Firstly, applicants should register their interest by completing section one of the Registration of interest form and forwarding this to the Professional Programmes Administrator, Louise Gully, at the Department of Education. The Professional Programmes Administrator liaises with the Research Champion who will complete section two and return it to confirm whether the school is prepared to support the application and to contribute to the fees. The applicant will be informed of the outcome as soon as possible.
Secondly, the applicant will be required to submit a formal application for admission to the MSc in Learning and Teaching online at https://www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/graduate/applying-to-oxford/application-guide?wssl=1 It is advisable to make an application as soon as possible.

For 2017/18 the fees cost is c.£3,045 in Year 1 and c.£3,166 in Year 2, plus a one-off payment due in the final year of c.£786 for college fees. This represents a reduction of 50% on the college fees, which are part-funded by Brasenose College for local teachers in schools that are full members of the Deanery. (For those with no M credits there is an extra year of tuition fees.) Teachers who start the course within their first 3 years of practice are eligible for a bursary of up to £450.
