Can citizen education improve the attitudes, attainment and outcomes of disadvantaged pupils?
As the Citizenship Education Lead, Ellie reports on the positive outcomes of implementing a new curriculum designed to improve the sense of community and engagement of SEN, Pupil Premium and EAL students in her school.
Survey results show that students felt that the curriculum had helped them to develop a better understanding of the community and the world, and the skills and motivation to be active citizens. Most of the teachers agreed that the curriculum should be extended to all pupils to promote a feeling of pride in the community and the values of good citizenship.
